Moving into college wasn’t just a moment but it was a whole journey. Coming all the way from Dallas, Texas to Delaware State, I knew things were about to change, but I didn’t realize just how real it would feel until I actually got there.
It started with two flights and over eight suitcases. Yes, eight. Each one packed with pieces of home, pieces of who I was, and everything I thought I might need to start this new chapter. By the time I landed, I was already tired but my day was just getting started.
Move-in day was hectic. Long lines, people everywhere, cars packed to the top. It felt like organized chaos. But the moment I finally got my key, everything shifted. Holding it in my hand made it real. This wasn’t just a visit this was my new home and my fresh start.
The next two days were all about turning a plain dorm room into my space. With my parents by my side, we decorated, unpacked, and slowly brought my vision to life. It wasn’t just about making it look good but my own.
Then came the hardest part saying goodbye.
When my parents left, it hit me. I was really here. On my own. Miles away from everything I’ve ever known. That moment was emotional, but it was also powerful. Because at the same time, I felt something else excitement to start my new journey.
